CFA Level 1 diagnostic test: common questions

How is the test put together?

It has 36 questions: 4 each from Quantitative Methods, Financial Statement Analysis, Equities, Fixed Income, Portfolio Construction and Ethical and Professional Standards, and 3 each from Economics, Corporate Finance, Derivatives and Alternative Investments. The counts follow the middle of each topic's 2027 exam weight, and the questions are spread across the readings in each topic.

How long does it take?

About 54 minutes at exam pace, which is 90 seconds a question. Nothing times you, so take longer if you need to.

Do I need an account?

No. The test, the score and the explanations are free without signing up. Your answers are kept in this browser, not on our servers.

Is it the same test every time?

Yes, the same questions each time, so a second attempt mostly shows what you remember. For new questions, use the practice questions or the mock exam.

What should I do with the result?

Start with your lowest topics, then cover the rest. The study plan spreads every reading of CFA Level 1 across the weeks before your exam window, and a free account can answer any question in the bank, up to 50 new questions a day.

When you want more than a starting point, the full mock exam has 180 questions in two sessions.
